About the contest

Blastoff and OXO Labs are presenting the fourth Startup Contest where startuppers from the CEE region can pitch their ideas, business goals and strategies to top VCs and representatives of the European tech sector, and compete with each other. Pitches will be held at Brain Bar, Europe's bravest and edgiest festival on the future with the most amazing masterminds from various fields including tech, business, culture and politics to debate their visions on the upcoming global trends.

Registration for Blastoff Startup Contest 2018


FIRST ROUND: Application

As a first step startups should complete the Registration Form and submit a short summary of their idea. Applications must be filled out in English.

Deadline: April 29, 2018 (23:59:59 CET/GMT +1)

SECOND ROUND: Video interview

Teams who managed to go through to this round will be asked to submit a video interview about their business ideas including value proposition, financing plans, revenue streams, pricing and competitors.

Deadline: May 11, 2018


After our internal staff review and score the startups from the second round, the best 10 applicants will enter the final and have the chance to convince the jury about the value of their project by pitching their startup idea in 3 minutes in front of a live audience and win one of the valuable awards of Blastoff Startup Contest 2018.

Péter Oszkó

Peter Oszkó has commenced his career at KPMG and Deloitte, and after a short period of time he became Managing Director of the Hungarian division of Deloitte. His name first fused with startup investors when being the Head of Portfolion Venture Capital Fund of OTP group and he pioneered in this field when creating the first Hungarian Angel Fund, Power Angels, which is focusing on early-stage investments. As Managing Partner at OXO Group he established OXO Labs for startups in pre-seed and seed phase and OXO Ventures for scaling up more mature ideas in the CEE region in order to help them entering the international market.

Timea Szilágyi

Timea Szilágyi has over 15 years of experience in the PE/VC sector. Started her career in the Budapest Bank (former GE Capital affiliate), then fullfilled investment director position at the advisor of the Hungarian American Enterprise Fund/Hungarian Equity Partners PE funds, later on at the Hungarian Development Bank and its various capital financing entities. In 2011 she joined the VC arm of Docler Group, an IT-technology-media group, headquartered in Luxemburg, as an investment director, and later on as the managing director of Docler Investments. In the past 2 years she works with OXO Group and as a Board member of OXO Ventures, she is mainly involved in the fundraising of a CEE regional VC fund.

Anna Apró

Anna Apró has considerable hands-on experience of the different forms and types of business organisations, as well as of the wide range of positions and activities that running a business involves. She established her first company at the age of 18 and gained extensive international working experience in countries like China, Taiwan and Malaysia. In the past 5 years the intergrowth of economic theory and practice shaped her life. The major focus of attention was the everyday operation of a hemodynamic laboratory. While working on some paralelly running projects, since 2016 Anna Apró has been a member of Powerangels.

Maciej Plichta

Maciej is an experienced investment and M&A professional with almost 10-years of combined experience on the capital markets and business and financial advisory, including over 6 years in venture capital investment funds, both at seed and growth stages. Maciej has experience working with a diversified project portfolio, including companies from the frontier of new technologies, ICT, fintech, e-commerce and traditional businesses. During his work as an Investment Manager he has been responsible for sourcing of projects, carrying out the investment process and post-closing supervision and growth support for the portfolio companies. His experience include financial and business analysis, verification of business model assumptions, market research, company valuation and due diligence projects.

András Batiz

András finished the Hungarian Academy of Drama and Film in 1997 as a TV director and moderator. While still a student he started working for the state MTV channel as a reporter, editor and moderator. With the advent of privatisation in Hungarian television he became one of the leading faces of RTL, the biggest commercial TV channel in Hungary where he hosted the daily tabloid prime time program, Fókusz for 7 years. In 2004 he became spokesperson for the Hungarian Government including its successful re-election campaign of 2006. Eventually rising to head of the communications department for the Prime Minister’s office. Since 2007 he has been running his own consultancy company (together with Alexis Latham) - Impact Works - where he has delivered hundreds of trainings for corporate and public sector clients.

Balázs Polyák

Balazs Polyak has over 8 years experience with startups in various sectors. He joined Google in 2011, where he mainly dealt with export capable Hungarian companies, and scalable solutions to evaluate the startup/investor ecosystem. He presented at several startup/investor events and was one of the creators behind 'Világ a Piacom', a joint project between Google and Hungarian organizations aiming to educate companies on expanding abroad. Currently he is heading an analytical team with the aim to simplify data-based decisions for advertisers, and identifying underlying export opportunities.

László Jónás

Laszlo Jonas has commerced his career at the retail divisions of CIB Bank and K&H Bank, where he was responsible for leading multiple branches and teams simultaneously. His consulting agency is advising companies operating in various fields, with a turnover between 1 million and 15 million EUR. From 2016 he is Head of Business Development at Design Terminal - a startup accelerator building bridges between startups and corporations - managing the international expansion of the organisation.


Andrew Hefler

Andrew was born in Germany to American parents. After graduating from the University of Southern California, he moved to Hungary in 1994. After three years of corporate experience, he transitioned to the world of performing arts, appearing in films such as Kontroll and Fekete Kefe, and on stage at the Hungarian National Theatre. His true calling is improvisational theatre, and in 2010 he founded the Grund Színház Impro Theatre Company, which performs regularly in several venues around Budapest. He has written and created works for television with Comedy Central and AMC. He has been a host and moderator for numerous events ranging from MOL to We are Open as well as a moderator and consultant for Budapest Brain Bar. He is a member of DRAMATRIX communication training company as a trainer since 2000, and later as lead trainer and partner.
